Margaret Filholm, 85, died Friday Nov. 11, 2005.

She was born to Roy and Etta Vrooman 12 miles southwest of Eagle Butte on July 4, 1920. She was 8 years old before she realized all of the 4th of July celebrations were for more than her birthday.She graduated from Eagle Butte High School and South Dakota State College in 1943. She became a teacher and taught in Faith, Langford, Gettysburg and Eagle Butte. She moved to Brookings following her marriage to James Filholm Sept. 4, 1949.
The family moved to New Underwood in 1961.Margaret is survived by daughters, Diane (Bill) Tines and Donna Mathieson of New Underwood and Debra Miles of Jacksonville, Ark.; sons, Dale (Karla) Filholm of Gillette, Wyo., and Duane (Dawn) Filholm ofCuster; sisters June Foley (Clem) of Wessington, Lillian Herren of Spearfish, and Jessie Clauson of Sioux Falls; brothers, Gail Vrooman of Eagle Butte, Gordon (Inge) Vrooman of Sheridan, Wyo., LeRoy (Karen) Vrooman of Rapid City, Ralph (Rosella)Vrooman of Fort Pierre and Ear
l (Linda) Vrooman of Wasilla, Alaska and several grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Jim Filholm, brothers, Milford and Donald and great-grandson Myles Whitted.
